From earliest ambitions to coffee of choice, we got a personal interview from Gregory Royar behind the account “Gregoryroyar”. He also talked about how he combined his inner technology obsession and artistic cravings into his job now, which is the best of both worlds.
Through the lens with Greg, we not only find beautiful landscape, gadgets, but also his lovely dog Gimli on his feed from time to time. All of the photos are precisely photographed with a unique artistic angle, not limited by any styles, Greg just knows how to capture moments in time with the best way.
What did you want to do when you were young? What was your earliest ambition?
In my younger years I had a deep interest in technology and wanted a career working with computers.
What did you study in school? What prompted you to do something different than your studies? (if this is the case).
I studied network administration. I have an artistic side that has to be satiated, so a career in photography and video is a perfect mesh between technology and artistry.
What made you start your instagram account?
I wanted to put out images that made me happy to create and reflect my interest, rather than just client work.
What are some essential items in your closet that you think everyone should have?
A pair of Redwing boots. They look better with age and last forever. You can send them back anytime they need a resoling!
What do you find to be the most challenging in your endeavors and what have you learned so far?
I think the hardest thing in a creative career is compromising between what you know is best and what the client thinks is best. Sometimes you have to deliver on a client’s needs rather than your artistic interpretation.
What was the best piece of advice you have ever gotten? Or a piece of advice you wish to give to your younger self?
Stay motivated and do more than what is sufficient/required. All the best people go above and beyond what is required in their craft.
Where do you want your instagram account to be in 5 years?
Hopefully larger with an audience that still enjoys my style and taste.
Quick takes!
Coffee of choice: Nitro Cold Brew from West Oak Coffee in Denton TX.
Favorite The Goods product: THE FIX. I love using this bag for my cables and other miscellaneous items inside of my backpack. Since I tend to use a traditional backpack without pockets inside, The Fix works perfect for keeping my items organized.
Something you want to learn: The more the better. I am hugely interested in watching youtube videos to learn new skills. My next learning endeavor will probably be some more advanced After Effects work.
Life motto: Do more!
Describe yourself in 3 words: Analytical, Artistic, Persistent.
Feel free to add anything about you: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
